PROJECT BRIEF

The Wigan and Leigh College Performing Arts department recognised the need for an access control solution that ensured security and streamlined access while preserving an inviting atmosphere for students, staff and visitors. To meet these objectives, the department initiated a project to install Automatic Systems SlimLane turnstiles in conjunction with Mere UK.

WHY AUTOMATIC SYSTEMS WERE CHOSEN

Mere, having a good relationship with the College due to them having the existing maintenance contract, approached Automatic Systems to quote for the turnstile element of the works.

Mere was awarded the job even though a cheaper quote from another supplier was submitted in the tender process.

PRODUCT CHOSEN

A bank of Automatic Systems SlimLane turnstiles was installed comprising one SL940 slim (standard width lane) and one SL950 (wide lane). The lanes featured 900mm high glass obstacles enhancing both security and aesthetics. Three housings were strategically placed to house the control units and electronics for the turnstiles and protection cells were integrated to ensure the continual safety of children under 1000mm tall, addressing the diverse user population of the college and detection cells were incorporated allowing users to smoothly pass through with bags and other items enhancing convenience.

SL940
The SlimLane 940 double swing door security entrance lane offers a high bidirectional throughput and uncompromising security. With its transparent, elegant design and minimal footprint, the SlimLane 940 is designed to integrate perfectly into any architectural style. Equipped with high processing capacity and an exclusive detection system, the SlimLane 940 guarantees accurate user tracking and prevents any unauthorised use. The SlimLane 940 is a modular product that can be installed as a single or a multi-lane array and can also be combined with the SlimLane 950 wide lane model.

SL950
The SlimLane 950 double swing door security entrance lane offers a high bidirectional throughput and uncompromising security. With its transparent, elegant design and minimal footprint, the SlimLane 950 is designed to integrate perfectly into any architectural style. Its wide lane ensures easy access for people with reduced mobility, wheelchairs, large carts or wide objects. Equipped with high processing capacity and an exclusive detection system, the SlimLane 950 guarantees accurate user tracking and prevents any unauthorised use. The SlimLane 950 is a modular product that can be installed as a single or a multi-lane array and can also be combined with the SlimLane 940 standard lane model.

INSTALLATION

The project went smoothly and within the time frame allocated.

CONCLUSION

The Wigan and Leigh College Performing Arts Department’s installation of Automatic Systems Slim Lane turnstiles, combined with Paxton Net2 access control, has significantly elevated security, access control efficiency, and user experience. The project successfully achieved its objectives, allowing the college to maintain a safe, welcoming environment while embracing modern technology. This investment exemplifies the college’s commitment to providing a secure and aesthetically pleasing learning and artistic environment for its students and staff.
